The Librarian - Great Grey Owl

I have spent years travelling through the rocky mountains and have seen a few of these great birds but never gotten a good shot. This day I came upon two separate individuals a few miles apart that were very intent on hunting and I managed to spend a good hour between them. They can be seen hunting in the daylight where as a lot of owls hunt mostly at night . Fantastic to watch.

Mystery Canyon

The slot canyons in Arizona hold some marvellous and exotic designs and colours. Using long exposures helps draw out the textures and colours. The further we went into the canyon and the more the light changed the more colours came out.

I have spent many days shooting these majestic birds as they migrate through Alberta. They are the ultimate flight design so I thought they fit a look like an aircraft.

Elk sparring - Rocky Mountains

They guys were sparring in the tress just outside of the Banff Springs Hotel. They were very aggressive and I saw the antlers dig into the elk on more than a few occasions. They were intent on each other but were also aware of how close I was, as you can see them watching me.

This really typified to me what the harbours and country side look like in the fall

Fawn - Kananaskis Country Alberta

These two fawns were not far from their mother and were out in the open early in the morning. It was very early morning and I quietly followed them around for about 30 minutes while mom kept me at a comfortable distance.

The call of the Loon at dusk seems to exemplify what being in the mountains are all about. This particular one was stretching and calling out when I shot this.

Great Horned Owl and Owlets

Had to stand on the top of my truck cab to get to the right height for the shot. They nest early spring before the leaves come out on the trees. Canada.

sometimes called alpine glow the early light that hits the mountain tops first thing can show a soft halo effect that changes into many colours.

Sunset at Playa La Garita

One evening walking on the beach in Panama. The birds were following a school of fish and the sky and sand were turning gold. I like this time of day when the light paints a variety of colour across the entire landscape. Never know what colour is coming next.
